Old World Audio was founded by Rodney Davis. From the beginning, it has been our mission to provide the highest quality products available for the money. We have invested a considerable amount of time and resources into researching and testing components before using them in our products, even having them custom made when necessary. Our experience with a wide variety of equipment allows us to educate our customers on how to achieve their desired sound. Whether it is transformer color or natural clarity you are looking for, we can build you a custom unit or mod an existing one. We believe in the quality of analog recording and have vowed to keep this style of equipment alive like an Old World Tradition.

The Old World Audio U33 was designed by Rodney Davis and Tom Sokira. Tom has been building tube recording equipment and mastering records to vinyl before most of us were ever born. He is like a grandfather to me and I am very thankful to know him.

Rodeny says “I had very high expectations when we were designing this unit. I have to say openly to the public that this unit has exceeded my expectations sonically. We have been fine tuning the U33 to give people that Fairchild 660 position 1 sound. While also retaining the 436/EMI RS124, Universal Audio 175B attack and release settings. In the process what has happened is we have created one of the most amazing mastering compressors that I have ever heard. I truly believe that this is not just a piece of equipment it is history in the making.”

With the current revision the Old World Audio U33 is extremely hard to compete with (that includes vintage or new units).

Rodeny adds “The U33 compressor utilizes all vacuum tube technology (no solid state). It is transformer balanced in and out and was built out of the respect for some of the 1960′s Abbey Road engineer Geoff Emerick’s recordings from the Beatles Revolver era. The unit is not a direct clone of any compressor from the past but we feel the essential features of the EMI RS124 are preserved as well as some newer flexibility.”

“The unit is a cross between an Altec 436, EMI RS124 and a FAIRCHILD 660. Running channel A into channel B will yield some very interesting pumping a breathing effects. If High Fidelity is in mind it is Stereo Linkable and will behave itself beautifully across a mix. We hope you enjoy using it as much as we did designing it and recording with it. This unit was honestly a labor of love and we think it adds a certain magic to the recording experience.”

Thom Bresh

Thom Bresh gave us the pleasure of stopping by here at the studio to pay us a visit and pick up his “Galletta” Bigsby – Guitar in which Eric built him. Thom requested Eric to reshape the neck to his optimal size shape and feel.

Thom played the guitar and thought that the guitar was “just great”!

He also took the time to record a handful of songs here in the studio on his Martin- Bigsby Acoustic D-28 #1
